5.9 Power Source Remote Controls
Welders work on a variety of joints and materials with varying metal thicknesses. They use different electrodes and weld in various positions. All these variables require changes in polarity and welding machine adjustments.
To eliminate the time required to travel back and forth to the welding machine, several manufacturers provide remote control devices that may be kept near the operator for convenient control of the machine.
The small portable remote control panel shown in Figure 5-51 provides for remote current adjustments. Using a remote current setting device of this type, the welder may turn on the welding machine, then climb into a restricted place. The welder can then adjust the welding machine to any current setting without changing any controls on the front of the welding machine itself. The ability to constantly adjust the machine to job requirements saves valuable time and results in better welds.
