11.1 Complete Oxyfuel Gas Welding Outfit
An oxyfuel gas welding outfit is the basic equipment needed to weld with oxygen and fuel gas. An oxyfuel gas welding stationincludes the oxyfuel gas welding outfit, welding table, ventilation, lighting, and other equipment necessary for welding and the welder's comfort.
The equipment used in an oxyfuel gas welding station may vary, depending upon the welding operations performed. In general, a welding outfit will consist of the following:
The equipment used in an oxyfuel gas welding station may vary, depending upon the welding operations performed. In general, a welding outfit will consist of the following:
- Gas supplies, consisting of an oxygen cylinder (compressed gas) or tank (bulk liquid), and a fuel gas cylinder or generator.
- Regulators with high- and low-pressure indicators or gauges. The regulators must be equipped with fittings for attaching the regulator to the gas cylinder and attaching hoses to the regulator. One regulator with gauges and fittings is required for the oxygen cylinder and one regulator with gauges and fittings is required for the fuel gas cylinder.
- Hoses with appropriate fittings.
- A complete welding torch with welding tip, mixing chamber, needle valves, and hose fittings.
- Welding goggles or a welding helmet with the recommended tinted filter shade lens. For oxyfuel gas welding, a number 4, 5, or 6 lens is normally recommended.
- A spark lighter to ignite the welding flame.
